When I began working with Canvas Medical, a new EMR platform developer, they were mailing copies of a nonfiction bestseller to prospects as a way to gain attention. While the gift was a nice gesture, it wasn’t providing a return on their investment. I suggested that in order to set themselves apart and establish themselves as a trustworthy authority in the health IT industry, they should write their own book addressing a specific issue their audience was struggling with.
Chart Forward is the result. It was created to help primary practice clinicians make intelligent Electronic Medical Record (EMR) purchasing decisions and handle the switching process from the old to the new. Just a few hours of interview time with the CEO coupled with my industry knowledge enabled me to ghostwrite a 44-page booklet for a fraction of the cost of purchasing another author’s book. Because the company owns the copy, we were able to repurpose it for use in other marketing content.
